Alex Coal
The person behind the name
Alex Coal built her public career online before expanding into studio work. Her early interviews describe an artist who wanted room for her own ideas, while later profiles follow a gradual move away from other jobs and toward full-time performance.
She has worked across independent productions, established film sets and long-form interviews. Her credits include the horror film Scissors, and her public conversations range from the practicalities of making a living to the films, games and artwork she enjoys.
Alex Coal in ScissorsA name connected to art
Coal chose a professional name with a personal connection: charcoal was a material she used in her artwork. She also wanted a name that people could remember and spell easily.
Her creative interests were already part of her public identity in 2017. Drawing existed alongside performance, rather than arriving later as a new image for the camera.
Building a different working life
Before her online career took over, Coal held several jobs, including management work. A roommate suggested live broadcasting, and she researched the idea before trying it. Early shows with a friend helped her begin reducing her other commitments.
That transition happened in stages. Her webcam beginnings date to February 2015; wider studio work came later, with a 2020 profile placing that move in late 2018. By 2019, named studio releases were documenting her growing screen career.
Learning through collaboration
Coal’s studio career has included repeat work with director B. Skow. A 2019 release announcement already described her third appearance for his studio that year, reflecting an ongoing working relationship.
In a 2024 interview with Holly Kingstown, she returned to the subject of working with Skow and fellow performer Dharma Jones. The conversation focused on a particular production and the experience of collaborating with its cast and director.
A NightMoves award
In 2021, Coal received the NightMoves award for Best Girl/Girl Performer, Editor’s Choice. The distinction recognised her work within that particular performance category.
NightMoves presents separate selections by editors and fans. Coal’s award was the editors’ selection; the audience-voted award in the same category went to Kenna James.
Horror beyond the audience seat
Coal has spoken about her enjoyment of horror and games, including StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm. In May 2023, she was announced as a cast member of Harry Sparks’s mainstream horror project Scissors.
The film appeared in distributor listings as a 2025 release. Coal plays Dr. Jane Bates, taking her screen work into a slasher ensemble. Her interest in horror predates the casting announcement by several years.
Conversations away from the set
Coal has discussed her working life in several podcast settings. Her 2023 Amazingly Awful appearance revisited the years of balancing jobs and moving from webcam work into films. A separate conversation with Danny Steele explored restaurant work, customer service and food.
Her interviews also make room for humour. On Comedians Talk to Porn Stars, the conversation included Bo Burnham, George Carlin and The Room. She appeared with Steele on KFC Radio in 2022, adding another format to her public interviews.
