Alex Coal
Alex Coal: independent work and studio collaboration
Her accounts describe several stages: researching live work, reducing other jobs and later joining studio productions.
Beginning while other jobs continued
A NightMoves profile described Coal holding three jobs before trying live work. After a roommate suggested it, she researched the idea rather than beginning immediately.
The profile says that three early broadcasts with a friend allowed her to leave two of those jobs. She continued the remaining job before later reducing it as her online work grew.
Who made and owned the recordings
In her 2017 interview, Coal distinguished live broadcasts from recorded work and discussed the ownership of recordings. She said that she generally owned videos she made independently.
For commissioned work, she described receiving a fee while the hiring producer owned the material. Her explanation concerned the arrangements she used at that time and the control she had over independent productions.
Later studio work
The NightMoves account dates her move into wider studio work to late 2018. Earlier live work had already become part of her career by February 2015.
B. Skow appears in her later professional collaborations. A 2024 studio interview notice names both the director and fellow performer Dharma Jones, with Coal discussing working alongside them.
